His Guardian, His Forever Remembering 4: From Grace to Grass

Author:Leo Category:urban Update time:2022-10-10 15:48:26

It is said that change is as good as rest but Leo did not want this type of change. He wondered where to start or what to do. They had nothing to their name and he didn know what to do. This is when someone is said to be between a rock and a hard place; nowhere to run to.

He looked at the few coins they had left after paying the cab fare from the hospital to the house and he considered death. He thanked heavens that he wasn alone because right then, death looked like bliss but he couldn leave those two alone. No. He couldn be that selfish and he wouldn give Timothy that satisfaction. He would one day come back and give Timothy a taste of his own medicine. He swore that he would.

Their mother told them that they had to move away from that city because from the way Timothy was behaving, it was only a matter of time before he kills them all. She told them that she suspected something bad was cooking on Timothys side when none of them, not even his wife who pretended to be her friend, visited them at the hospital. And she was proven right when they took everything that belonged to them.

Leo could not understand how their mom could be this strong despite everything they were going through. Seeing her perseverance and her resilience despite the pain she was in and her condition, Leo decided to be strong for his mother and younger brother. He vowed that no matter how long it took, one day, they were going to take back what rightfully belonged to them. They could not believe that their father left them with nothing and they suspected that there had been foul play at work to steal their wealth.

Leo swore to make Timothy and his family pay. And what with accusing their mother about the accident that took their father? Leo remembered that he tried following up with the police once he came to and he was taken in circles till he gave up. He knew that something was fishy but he neither had the means nor the capability to investigate further. But he promised himself to revisit all this when he had the means to.

Thats how the once wealthy family of Elijah Mungo Adams found themselves in the slums of city K. They were able to move after pawning their moms wedding ring which fetched them a decent sum which would support them for a while as long as they didn live extravagantly.

Living in the iron-sheet built houses of the slum, in a single room where they shared even the toilet and the bathroom with other tenants was a new experience all together for them. What with their bedridden mom? It was going to be one hell of a life. This is what should be called from grace to grass.

Leo decided to transfer his brother to the public school nearby so he could finish his final year of primary school. It was first hard for Kay to adapt because he wasn used to everything that came withh being in a public school. The food was poor, the classes were full to the brim and don even talk of the distance he had to walk to and from school. But one thing he loved with his new school was that there was no bullying, no segregation by status and the students were friendly and treated each other as equals. No one even remembered to ask each other where they came from. Maybe because all their backgrounds in this school were similar.

Being poor came with its packs and Kay loved that he could make new friends who knew nothing of what happened to them. New friends who didn care where you came from or how rich you were. His brother encouraged him to work hard because all they cared about right then was getting a good score that would secure him a place at a nice secondary school.

And work hard did Kay do. He made sure to top every exam they were given. Only their wealth was taken and not their brains. Leo had to deffer his joining of university since he was now the head of the family at eighteen. He had to look for work so as to support his family. For someone who had not worked a day since he was born, it wasn going to be a walk in the park but he was ready. He was Elijah Adams son after all; the man who had defied odds and made a name for himself in the real estate industry of Keya.

Thats how he found himself as a waiter in a small cafe along a busy street near the University Keya of city K. He was serving mostly university students who couldn afford to go to big hotels. He loved this cafe because the work wasn as tiring and he sometimes was given food to carry back home. This made it easier for him as he now could feed his mom and brother without straining.

He was a hard worker and he became fast friends with the cafes owner who didn like being called madam and insisted Leo calls her Mena. Mena was a nice lady and she discovered something was wrong since Leo rarely smiled and he didn try making friends.

Leo had no reason to smile or so he thought, as the pain they, together with his family, went through was still raw in his heart.

He only had one driving force: revenge.
